The In-Between Time Explored
Letting go can be hard...
Many years ago , I had the pleasure of reading the book, Transitions by William Bridges. In it he spoke of the three segments experienced during every life change: The beginning, the middle and the end. This framework provedquite helpful over the course of my adult life to understand.
- The beginning is filled with hope.
- The middle is filled with creation
- The ending is filled with acknowledgement that life is change and then…letting go.
What fascinates me most about this discussion is the time in-between one era ending and a new one beginning. It is in these moments I am called to let go of past familiarities that help to calm my concerns, while not yet reaping the fruits of my current labor. The in-between time places me within the messy, imperfect process of creating something new, fresh and hopefully wonderful.
The in-between time demands my staunchest courage, tenacity and optimism. It is the time of surrender to the knowledge or wisdom that life, especially my life, will work out in ways I may not yet fully discern.
It frustrates me that this time of nothing can wield such power.
I am working on truly relaxing into the peace, calm and beauty found at the center of the storm; during the in-between time -
Wish me luck.
