Leadership Genius: The Benefits of Being Happy, Even When Times are Rough

• Aug 28, 2021

Finding the beauty in life is what keeps us going

I  want to remind everyone who has the capacity to be happy to do so, even in times of difficulty and uncertainty.

Why is this important as a leader?
For some, it seems dishonest to be happy when you know things are stinky for other people.

To remember to be happy in the moment is essential because those who are capable can seed the collective mind by countermanding negative vibes with their positive energy and nourishing ideas. By stimulating positive imagination for wonderful outcomes, it becomes possible for more people to help, imagine and act it into being.

When you see the beauty before you, already present, our nervous system calms down on a deep level and we begin to breathe more fully. Our ongoing cortisol surge is disrupted, and we regain a sense of centered thoughtfulness. It has been studies and proven that focusing on emotionally nourishing ideas enhances divergent problem-solving abilities in adults.

We don’t need to change anyone’s mind; we need to gently shift our own perspective, as a more effective alternative.

It takes courage to see the goodness in a world full of the skeptics, cynics and people who want to make sure you know how bad life is. I fully appreciate the difficult side of life for I have been there and done that, as have. we all. My sadness is that those who are focused on being right about how ugly the world is, are then destined to see it through that prism alone. If you shift the facet through which you see the world a fresh perspective emerges.

What if all we need do is see the beauty beneath our feet?

In Hawaii, Seattle and Santa Fe I was smitten by how much simple beauty there is to enjoy, if only you stop to marvel at it. The colors, the textures, the scents, the sounds, the smiles, and especially, the loving kindness that pulses through it.

What the world needs now is Joy and Calm and Delight to counterbalance the hurt and harm so we can discover better solutions.

As a leader in life, you set the standard for what is seen as possible. Perhaps it is time to see more goodness in the world and makes sure the team sees it clearly through your eyes. Make a pact to notice the sweet and encouraging opportunities before you and dedicate them to healing the discomfort of self and others, especially those for whom you are responsible.

Go forth and co-create the soil in which happiness grows.
Now that is leadership genius!
